DICKINSON, ND – Zane Phelps drove in three runs Friday, including two on a go-ahead single in the top of the ninth, as the Pierre Trappers rallied for a 9-6 win over the Badlands Big Sticks.
Down 5-4, Pierre stormed ahead with five runs in the ninth. Michael Herrera tied the game with an RBI single before Phelps’ big hit. Carter Howell’s third hit of the game drove in two more runs.
Niko Piazza also drove in two runs for the Trappers and Micah Stroh hit his second home run of the season.
Noah Parsons (1-1) earned the win, pitching the last inning and a third. Starter Ethan Skujia kept pitching out of trouble in his five and a third innings. He allowed just a run and three hits. While walking five, he also struck out seven.
The Trappers led 4-0 through two and a half innings, but the Big Sticks scored a run in the fifth, tied the game with three in the seventh, then took the lead in the eighth before the Trappers’ comeback.
Pierre is now 13-15 and just two and a half games behind Badlands’ division lead. The Trappers will again play the Big Sticks Saturday in Dickinson at 7:35 CT.
