PIERRE – Home runs by Nick Grossman and Cooper McMurray helped the Pierre Trappers to a 7-6 win Thursday over the Western Nebraska Pioneers at Hyde Stadium.
Pierre had scored three runs in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead, then McMurray’s two-run homer in the fifth extended the advantage to 7-3. Grossman hit a solo homer in the first inning. Niko Piazza drove in two runs.
Winning pitcher Kade Bishop (1-0) allowed four runs and seven hits in five and a third innings with five strikeouts. Billy Moreland, the Trappers’ fourth hurler, worked a perfect ninth inning for the save.
The Trappers are 12-15 and three and a half games behind Lewis Division leader Badlands. Pierre will open a weekend series with the Big Sticks in Dickinson, North Dakota Friday at 7:35 CT.
