PIERRE – Post 8 ended the regular season with a flourish at Hyde Stadium Friday, sweeping a doubleheader from Spearfish 9-0 and 15-0.
The first game featured a combined no-hitter by Jack Van Camp, Lincoln Kienholz and Garrett Stout. Van Camp struck out eight in three innings, then Kienholz and Stout each worked two innings and each struck out five. Stout also homered, tripled and drove in three runs. Kienholz tripled, singled and drove in two.
In game two, the Eights bashed out 14 hits, three by Cade Hinkle, who also drove in two runs. River Iverson and Maguire Raske also had two RBI each. And Post 8 pitching nearly pulled off another no-hitter. Spearfish’s Ty Sieler broke it up with a two-out single in the top of the fifth. Bennett Dean, Elliott Leif, Aaron Booth, Jake Mayer and Matt Lusk each pitched a scoreless inning.
Post 8 ended the regular season 27-16. They finished fourth in the A Legion seed points standings and will host 13th-seed Yankton in a best-of-three series at Hyde Stadium in the regional tournament Tuesday and Wednesday. The teams will play twice on Tuesday, starting at 5:00 PM. If needed, a third game would be played Wednesday at noon. Post 8 beat Yankton 6-1 in Brandon on June 23rd in the teams’ only regular-season meeting.
