PIERRE – Post 8 easily advanced to the Super Region round of the A Legion Baseball Tournament Tuesday at Hyde Stadium with shutout wins over Yankton 8-0 and 10-0 to sweep the best-of-three Regional Tournament series two games to none.
Jack Van Camp struck out 10 in five innings in Game 1, allowing just two hits. Jake Mayer and Elliot Leif worked an inning each. Andy Gordon, Cade Hinkle and Maguire Raske hit two-run doubles for Post 8.
Lincoln Kienholz pitched a one-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts in the clinching Game 2. Post 8 took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, then put the game away with eight runs in the third. Gordon and Van Camp had two-run singles in that inning, followed by RBI singles by AJ Goeden and Hinkle and an RBI fielder’s choice by Andrew Coverdale. Gordon earlier had an RBI single in the first inning.
Post 8 will play in the best-of-three Super Region round at Hyde Stadium, with Games 1 and 2 on Monday and a third game, if necessary, on Tuesday. That series is for the chance to advance to the state tournament, scheduled for August 7-9.
