PIERRE – Billy Moreland hit a third-inning grand slam and starter Ethan Skuija struck out 14 in seven innings Friday, leading the Pierre Trappers to an 8-3 win over the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs at Hyde Stadium.
Moreland’s big home run, his second of the season, extended a 1-0 Pierre lead to 5-0. Skuija (2-0) allowed three runs and four hits in seven innings.
Cooper Howell, doubled, homered and drove in three runs as Pierre broke a three-game losing streak.
The Trappers are now 15-19 and will again host Souris Valley Saturday night at Hyde Stadium at 7:05.
