It is going to be another busy week of High School Sports around the area this week. Before we talk about that we should talk about Saturday’s excitement on the grid iron. Two area teams thought they were going to have a game short of a complete schedule due to circumstances out of their control. So, people started talking to people and before anyone knew it a plan was hatched, and Timber Lake and Herreid Selby Area played on Saturday in Herreid. The Wolverines from Herreid Selby Area got on the board first as Trey Hettick threw a touchdown strike to Trey Sayler from 8 yards out and the game was from there on out a classic in every form of the word. Hank Kraft ran in a touchdown for the Timber Lake Panthers, both touchdowns coming after a scoreless first quarter. Hettick would find Brenden Begeman on a 35 yard pitch and catch touchdown also in the second quarter. Then with just twenty eight seconds left in the first half Kendrick Martin passed the ball to Hank Kraft good for a twenty three yard touchdown and Timber Lake took a 14 to 12 lead into the halftime break. The third quarter saw Brenden Begeman score on a 34 yard run and again on a fifty two yard run both for touchdowns. Timber Lake would score as Jayden Miller ran back a fumble recovery 38 yards for a touchdown. Hank Kraft would score on a fifty seven yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter. After regulation, the score was 36 for The Panthers and 36 for the Wolverines so the game went into overtime. Would anyone expect anything less from a classic contest. The coin was tossed, and the Wolverines won the toss and deferred to take the ball second. Timber lake would get the ball first and goal from the ten. It took the Panthers two plays for Hank Kraft to punch a score in. The tow point conversion was held short and Herreid Selby Area got the ball with a chance to tie or take the win. Brenden Begeman pushed his way into the endzone from the five yard line and the Wolverines set up for the two point conversion. The ball was handed to Brenden Begeman who ran behind the Wolverine front and pushed in the winning score with the final being Timber Lake 32 and Herreid Selby Area 34. It was said more then once by more then one person “It’s too bad anyone had to loose that game.” Now the Wolverines will find themselves against Potter County Friday and Timber Lake will play against Lemmon McIntosh Friday. Good luck to both teams.
The North Border Titans will take on Ipswich Edmunds Central in Leola Friday as well. The Mobridge Pollock Tigers will be at home against the Sisseton Redmen on Friday for the Tiger Homecoming game. A week of dressing up and celebrating will culminate in a highly anticipated match up between two incredibly talented teams. Tonight, the Mobridge Pollock Lady Tiger Volleyball team will be at home and hosting Winner with everything starting with the JV at the high school starting at 5:30 and the C game in the Middle School starting at 5:30. Potter County and Ipswich will play tomorrow in Ipswich, North Central will host Sully Buttes in Roscoe tomorrow, and Herreid Selby Area will host McIntosh in Selby tomorrow. A busy week in high school sports to say the least.
