PIERRE – After a COVID-19 outbreak at Riggs High School led to the cancellation of last week’s scheduled game at Tea Area, Pierre Governor Football is set to host Spearfish this week.
Head coach Steve Steele discussed how the COVID-19 cases and quarantining of those with close contacts affected the team last week.
Steele feels that it is too bad that the Governors didn’t have the chance to play Tea Area.
How are the players dealing with all of this?
Steele said that it was good for everyone to return to practice this past Monday.
Steele said that some players had been out for quite a while before this week.
Steele thinks that having a usual week of work will eventually help those who have recently had to sit out.
This will be the first meeting in football between Pierre and Spearfish since last year’s 103-0 quarterfinal playoff game. Steele was asked if that will be any factor this week.
Steele related how similar Spearfish is this season to last season.
Pierre will host Spearfish at Hollister Field at Phil Trautner Stadium on Friday night. Hear the action at 6:30 on the official voice of the Pierre Governors, River 92.7, with Brian Oakland, and see live and archived streaming video at the River 92.7 page at drgnews.com.
