PIERRE – One of the Governors’ long-time rivals comes to the Capital City Friday. Pierre will host Huron at Hollister Field at Phil Trautner Stadium, looking to improve on a 3-1 record and follow up last week’s 79-28 home win over Spearfish.
Governor Head Coach Steve Steele said that the younger players called up to play in that Spearfish game were excellent.
Steele said that Rylan Derry went from soccer player to football placekicker with ease.
Despite the Spartans’ big passing yards, Steele said that the Pierre defense generally was good.
Steele was asked how many of those who have been quarantined can be counted upon against Huron.
Steele stressed that studying video of opponents is very important.
Huron can move the ball on offense, said Steele.
Steele called the Tigers’ defense effective.
Steele said that big games are ahead for Pierre and the other 11AA leaders.
Huron is 2-3 after a tough 21-19 loss last Friday at Sturgis. Pierre and Huron can be heard Friday night on the official voice of the Governors, River 92.7, starting at 6:30 with Brian Oakland. Live and archived video will be available at the River 92.7 page at drgnews.com.
