RAPID CITY – Ethan Skujia of the Pierre Trappers has been named as the 2020 Expedition League Pitcher of the Year. Skujia was also joined by teammates Cooper McMurray, Nick Grossman and Carter Howell on the All-Expedition League team.
Skujia, a righthander from Victoria, British Columbia, joined the Trappers after his senior season at Cal State Bakersfield. He led the Expedition League with a 1.25 earned run average and 75 strikeouts. In 43 ⅓ innings, he allowed just 20 hits and walked 14. His WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) ratio was 0.78. A ratio just over one is considered to be very good.
McMurray was second in the league with a .355 average, second in home runs with 10 and ninth in RBI with 31. He also drew 34 walks while striking out only 27 times.
Grossman was fourth in the league in RBI with 37 while hitting .284 with six home runs. He also was one of only 10 players in the Expedition League to have at least 10 doubles.
Howell’s .320 average was good for seventh in the league. He hit four homers, drove in 26 and stole 12 bases.
