The Hughes County Commission has appointed Jessica LaMie (la-me) as the county’s new State’s Attorney, effective Nov. 1, 2020.
LaMie has served as Deputy State’s Attorney for 2.5 years. She is replacing Roxanne Hammond, who has resigned to take a position in Rapid City.
Hughes County Commission Chairman Randy Vance says LaMie has steadily been taking on greater roles in the State’s Attorney’s office. He says this is the next step in that progression.
LaMie earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion and went on to receive her law degree from Hamline University School of Law in Saint Paul, Minnesota. She started her legal career in the South Dakota Legislative Research Council, serving in several different capacities.
