(KOKK)- During her budget address this month (Dec. 8), South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem recommended using one time money for several projects in the state– one of which would replace a building that burned down in October (Oct. 31, 2020) on the State Fairgrounds in Huron.
Noem wants to use $12 million in state funds that would be matched by the $3 million the state received from the insurance payment after the Beef Complex fire. She says another $4 million would be raised through private donations.
Noem talked about what the new facility could look like.
Noem explains how they came up with the $19 million figure for the new complex.
Noem says a new livestock complex in Huron could stimulate business growth.
The legislature will deal with the proposal along with the 2022 fiscal year budget during the 2021 legislative session. If the complex is approved, the new facility could be part of the 2022 SD State Fair.
