The Hughes County Commission is considering a new ordinance to protect county road rights-of-way and will hold a public hearing on the subject at their meeting next week (Dec. 21).
The proposed ordinance (Ordinance 2020-11) prohibits the placing of snow from a private driveway onto a county road or right-of-way. The ordinance also prohibits the intentional damaging of a county road or right-of-way, parking on a road or the road shoulder, planting crops or trees in the right-of-way, and other activities that may hamper visibility, ditch drainage or make the roads or rights-of-way less safe for travelers.
The public hearing will be held Dec. 21 at 5:35pm in the Commission Room in the Hughes County Courthouse. Those wishing to comment, may do so a few different ways.
