HIGHMORE, S.D. — Highmore-Harrold outlasted Wessington Springs in a seesaw battle Tuesday night, 64-63, to complete a sweep of a girls/boys basketball double-header. A Spartan lay-up attempt in the final seconds came up short, which secured the third win of the season for the Pirates against one defeat. Owen Fritzsche led Highmore-Harrold with 18 points, while Peyton McDonnell added 15. Jacob Messmer’s 17 points and Mason Schelske’s 16 paced the Spartans, who suffered their first loss of the young season in four games. In the opener, Highmore-Harrold lit things up early from the perimeter, knocking down eight 3-pointers in the first half, as the Lady Pirates cruised to a 59-36 win. Courtney Moser dropped 17 points and Letha Jessen added 13 as Highmore-Harrold remained unbeaten so far at 5-0. Avery Orth scored nine points for the Spartans who are still looking for their first win of the season.
