A Stanley County resident and avid user of the Rawlins Municipal Library in Pierre wants to give the gift of a library card to eligible residents who may not be able to afford the $35 fee.
Clark Stone says he will purchase a library card for anyone living in rural Hughes or Stanley Counties who needs the financial assistance. He says he’s happy to pay the fee to spread the love of reading.
Library cards are complimentary to anyone living in Pierre or Fort Pierre because the both towns provide funds for Rawlins Library. However, people living outside city limits in either community aren’t eligible for a complimentary card.
Library director Robin Schrupp says those interested in the program should contact Rawlins Municipal Library to request an income-based form. If you qualify, the card fee will be paid by Stone and a one-year card will be provided to you.
Rawlins Library offers more than 159,000 books, ebooks, digital magazines and other materials for research and entertainment. Each year, more than 150,000 people visit the library with an average daily count of more than 430 patrons. It also offers programs for readers of all ages, including programs specifically designed for children.
