The Honorable Jon Flemmer has been appointed to serve as Presiding Judge for the Fifth Judicial Circuit in South Dakota.
Justice Steven Jensen, who took over this week (Jan. 5, 2021) as Chief Justice of the South Dakota Supreme Court, made the appointment. Flemmer replaces Judge Scott Myren who was appointed to the state Supreme Court. Myren fills vacancy left by by former Chief Justice David Gilbertson who faced mandatory retirement this month. Gilbertson is the longest serving justice ever on the state’s high court, serving for nearly 26 years (25 years served as of April 17, 2020).
The Fifth Judicial Circuit consists of Campbell, Edmunds, McPherson, Walworth, Faulk, Brown, Day, Marshall, Roberts and Spink counties.
