The head of Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre says vaccinating eligible people for COVID-19 is going well.
President and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Mikel Holland says they’ve been administering the vaccine every week since Christmas.
Holland says, for the most part, they’ve finished vaccinating people in the Phase 1 Groups A, B and C categories and are focusing on Group D.
He says Avera St. Mary’s staff are making a lot of phone calls to schedule people to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
Holland says the following people should call 605-224-3158 to schedule an appointment to get the coronavirus vaccine in Pierre:
-
live in Hughes, Stanley, Sully or Jones counties
-
are age 75 and over
-
are a transplant patient
-
are a patient receiving cancer or dialysis treatment
-
AND have not yet been contacted to receive the COVID-19 vaccine
Appointments are required to be vaccinated. At this time, there is no out-of-pocket cost to the vaccine recipient.
Starting Monday, February 15, the State of South Dakota will drop the eligible age for receiving a COVID vaccine from the current 75 years to 70 years and older, as allocations allow.
Avera St. Mary’s Hospital continues to vaccinate groups 1A, C and D. If you are not in one of these categories, please fill out the form on Avera.org/COVID-Vaccine to be added to the vaccination waiting list. Select “other” as your priority group.
