The Federal Retail Pharmacy Program for COVID-19 vaccination is being activated today (Feb. 11, 2021) in South Dakota, but a Pierre pharmacy on the list won’t have vaccine to give.
State Health Secretary Kim Malsam-Rysdon says the participating retail pharmacies will receive an initial allotment of 2,600 doses a week total from the federal government, which is not subtracted from the state’s already established weekly allotment of approximately 13,500 doses. She says as the vaccine supply increases, participating locations and their designated allotment is also expected to increase.
However, a spokesperson for Brother’s Pharmacies, Inc.– more commonly known in Pierre and Fort Pierre as Shane’s Pharmacy– says their shipment has been delayed. They will call customers by priority group when the vaccine arrives.
FRPP is a collaboration between the federal government, states, territories and 21 national pharmacy partners and independent pharmacy networks, to increase access to COVID-19 vaccination across the United States.

All 13 will follow the already established PHASE I vaccination and priority group schedule.
