At Wednesday’s (February 24th) meeting of the Walworth County Commission, Eva Cagnones was appointed “replacement auditor”, effective March 2nd, until a new auditor is elected.
Walworth County Emergency Manager Jeff Jensen discussed some grant opportunities and the possibility of getting CPR and AED training for county employees.
After several executive sessions regarding personnel matters, a motion to hold a hearing to terminate the Director of Equalization was tabled.
Discussion was held to adopt policy changes regarding per diem travel expenses for county employees. A motion to approve the changes passed, with Commissioners Scott Schilling and Kevin Holgard voting no.
For the highway department the commission passed a motion to request a joint power agreement with True North Steel to purchase culverts off the Beadle County bid for 2021. They approved a motion to accept bids on March 2nd at 10am for gravel crushing at two sites in Walworth County. Also approved was the KLJ Engineering proposal for developing plans and specifications for asphalt surface treatment in Walworth County for chip sealing.
Sheriff Josh Boll presented a letter from the South Dakota National Guard Adjutant General acknowledging and thanking the Sheriff’s Department for their support of National Guardsmen through employment. Boll also gave the commissioners a letter of findings on transportation of females from the Liabilities and Risk Management Institute through their insurance company.
Regarding a recycling request from the Mobridge-Pollock School District, the commission decided that the landfill will furnish a trailer and the school will have the responsibility of dumping it. The board also approved the proposal from Geotech for the 2021 groundwater monitoring and annual report at the landfill.
A motion to retain Rebecca Krein as Landfill Supervisor on a part-time basis was approved by the commission. They tabled motions to create the position and advertise for a “landfill supervisor/secretary/book-keeper”.
