RAPID CITY – A pin by Hayden Shaffer completed a comeback Friday as Pierre Governor wrestling captured the Class A dual championship 34-31 over Rapid City Stevens at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
Down 31-18 with three matches remaining, the Governors rallied with a pin by Blake Judson and a major decision win by Kahlor Hindman. Then, in Shaffer’s match against Stevens wrestler Carter Doney, Doney led 4-1 going into the third period. Shaffer immediately hit a shot, putting Doney into a cradle, then putting Doney’s shoulders to the mat 39 seconds into the period to give Pierre its first dual championship.
