RAPID CITY – Chamberlain’s Gabe Skustad, the top-ranked Class A 145-pound wrestler in South Dakota, edged Tyson Johnson of Pierre Saturday to take that weight class championship at SDHSAA State Wrestling at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Skustad defeated Johnson for the second straight Saturday, having also won February 20 at the 3A regional tournament at the Chamberlain Armory.
Two other Chamberlain wrestlers placed. Noah Hutmacher won the 195-pound third-place match, shutting out Toby Schneck of Milbank in a 7-0 decision. Canyon Burckhard came fourth at 285 pounds after by pinned by Pierre’s Preston Taylor.
The Cubs’ 70 points left them eighth in the Class A team standings.

Winner Area scored 188.5 points, but couldn’t keep up with Canton and finished as the runners-up in Class B.
Sam Kruger won the 170-pound championship match for the second straight year, completing a 42-0 season with a technical fall win over Luke Richardson of Canton. Kaden Keiser also went unbeaten at 44-0, winning the 145-pound title with a 13-6 decision over Lane Miller of Howard. Maxton Brozik, Preston Norrid and Achilles Wiluweit all lost title matches.
Philip Area was third with 176 points. McCoy Peterson, Burk Blasius and Cody Donnelly all won individual championships.
Peterson got by Seth Peterson in a 5-3 decision to win at 152 pounds. Burk Blasius survived a 3-2 win over Jaden Dominisse of Canton at 160. Cody Donnelly won the 195-pound title and completed a 34-0 season with a fall over Jordan Gall of Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon.

Canton edged Winner Area 27-25 on Friday to win the Class B dual championship for the second straight season. The Warriors had a 14-9 lead, including a Kaden Keiser pin and a Sam Kruger technical fall, before Canton won six of seven matches to clinch the dual. Maxton Brozik also won by fall.
Kimball/White-Lake/Platte-Geddes ran past Redfield Area for third place, 55-15.
