A section of the walking path along the Missouri River at Pierre is closed this week to accommodate underground construction work for the City’s new drinking water treatment facility.
The waterfront walking path located between the railroad bridge and the car bridge closes today (March 22) and is expected to remain closed until March 29. Barricades will be in place to mark the closed area. Pedestrians are advised to avoid both the impacted portion of the walking path, as well as the green space located between the river and the Ramkota.
In June 2018, 70% of those voting approved spending more than $37-million to replace Pierre’s current well system with a drinking water treatment facility. After two years of planning and design, construction started in August 2020 on a $37.5 million treatment facility located on the western edge of Pierre. The project is scheduled for completion next year.
