Jeff Metzinger has been sworn in (June 4, 2026) early as the Hughes County Sheriff.
Metzinger was unchallenged in the June Republican primary election and had no challenger for the November general election. He took his oath of office during this week’s Hughes County Commission meeting.
Chief Deputy Dustin Drew had been serving as the Interim Sheriff since the departure of previous Sheriff Patrick Callahan in February. Callahan wasn’t seeking reelection and resigned from his term early to take a job in state government. Drew now resumes his duties as Chief Deputy.
Metzinger will begin his first official term as Hughes County Sheriff in January 2027.
