Post 8 Legion Varsity capped off their week of games on a high note, picking up two wins to carry them over to next Monday’s doubleheader. Wins that were earned with conviction. Between the two games, the bats produced a combined 25 total runs which included an inning that saw double-digits.
Game one went to Pierre by a final score of 9-2. Some errors and timely hitting from Sutton Sonnenschein helped Post 8 get on the board in the first. Porter Hunsley and Hudson Stoeser added in on the fun adding a few more runs, and thanks to Carter Templeton’s work on the mound, Post 8 Legion was victorious for the first time this year. The box score saw two runs in the first inning, three in the second and third, and one in the fourth. A great sign that maybe the bats have awoken for the summer.
Carter Schiefelbein was white hot in the game two victory in which Pierre won 16-8. Schiefelbein went 5-5 at the plate with a triple and a hand full of singles, scored five runs and drove in three. As a team, Pierre hit over .500 in the game earning 16 hits in 31 at bats.
This game was not as comfortable as the first one for Pierre, after giving up 8 runs in the first two innings Pierre found themselves behind late in the ballgame. However, a 10-run inning in the sixth would dig any team out of a hole and Pierre rolled to victory.
Post 8 Legion will be off for the weekend with the Zap in town, but will be home next Monday for a doubleheader versus Brandon Valley Post 131. Game one is scheduled for a 5:00 PM first pitch with game two to follow at 7:00 PM.
