Highmore Wind Turbine Destroyed In Fire

(Highmore, SD) — Firefighters say a wind turbine in Highmore is completely destroyed after a fire on Monday. Highmore Fire Chief Ken Hoffman tells Keloland they are still investigating what caused the fire. He says it was the first time he had ever seen a fire erupt in a turbine before and 17 firefighters were called to fight the blaze. An acre of bean stubble was burned and debris and fiberglass litter were spread throughout the field. Hoffman says one of the blades was completely on fire and the entire generator burned up.
