Bird numbers across the state were overall very good, with the central part of the state providing some of the best results. Northeast South Dakota had a bit slower hunting, which is likely due to crop harvest that is yet to be completed. Overall, many groups average 1-2 birds per hunter, with some limits coming in as well.
Throughout the weekend, Conservation Officers contacted over 1,800 hunters from 44 different states. Hunters came from far and wide, including Hawaii and Alaska, to enjoy the greatest pheasant hunting South Dakota has to offer!
Hunters are reminded to be mindful of where they are parking their vehicles, and to avoid blocking field approaches, parking on the blind spots of hills, and to get as far off the road as possible. Crop harvest continues to be in full swing, which means there is increased traffic including harvest equipment traveling county roads.
