Stanley County Elementary students were treated to a “Human Sundae and Ice Cream Event” Thursday (March 18, 2021).
Students voted for the staff members they wanted as the human sundae. Elementary Principal Terri Mehlhaff and PE instructor Clayton Wahlstrom were the lucky recipients.
Mehlhaff says a” human sundae” includes whipped cream, chocolate, caramel and strawberry syrup, sprinkles and cherries on top. She says the kitchen staff decided they needed to follow healthy food guidelines and added some chopped lettuce. The students earn Buff Bucks throughout the quarter and used them to purchase items or to vote for the staff that they wanted to turn into a human sundae. The school shredded all the Buff Bucks and these were used as additional “sprinkles.”
The event was a reward based system for students following the Stanley County ROAMS matrix. ROAMS criteria consists of the following:
R-Respect
O-Ownership
A-Achievement
M-Mindfulness
S-Safety
The ROAMs standards are charted daily and the students’ goal is a positive quarterly reward.
