HURON – Pierre Governor Track and Field had five individual winners Friday in the team’s first outdoor meet of the season, the Huron Invitational.
Girls
Pierre finished third overall in the team standings with 114 points.
Jessica Lutmer took her second win of the season in the 1600 meters, finishing in 5:33.12, just over six-tenths of a second better than Melanie Jacobs of Aberdeen Central. Brianna Sargent finished sixth and Jazzlyn Rombough was ninth.
Ryann Barry won the high jump. Barry was the only competitor to clear five feet.
Cameron Larson had an eighth-place finish in the 100 meters. Aleise Christipherson was second in the 200 meters, finishing just 25-hundredths of a second behind Taryn Hettich of Aberdeen Central. Barry was eighth.
Lutmer and Autumn Iverson finished second and third in the 800 meters.
Four Governors were in the top eight in the 100 meter hurdles. Addison Cumbow was third, with Danielle Beck fifth, Kenzie Gronlund sixth and Sydney Tedrow eighth.
In relays, the Governors were fourth in the 400 meters and seventh in the 800. The Governors’ B team was second in the 1600 meters with the A team third.
In other field events, Marissa Mathews was sixth in the pole vault.
Remington Price finished sixth in the long jump.
Price was fourth and Christipherson sixth in the triple jump.
Hannah Lemieux was sixth in the shot put.
Boys
Josh Strand won the 400 meters in Huron, with a time of 54.01 seconds. Paul Heth finished eighth.
Jack Merkwan won by over a half-second in the 300 meter hurdles. Merkwan finished in 42.68 seconds. Josh Rowse finished eighth.
Canyon Jones won the pole vault for the second time this season, clearing 12 feet.
Cole Peterson had two high finishes, third in the 100 meters and fourth in the 200. Caden Thompson was seventh and Vick Becker 10th in the 200.
Haeden Wheelhouse was 10th in the 800 meters.
Hayden Shaffer finished seventh in the 1600 meters and third in the 3200 meters.
Merkwan was fourth in the 110 meter hurdles, followed by Greyson Schuetzle in eighth and Shawn VanLiere in ninth.
The Governors’ B team was second in the 400 meter relay, finishing just .19 behind Brookings. The A team was sixth.
In the 800 meter relay, the Governors’ B team was fifth and the A team was 10th.
Pierre’s B team was second in the 1600 meter relay, with the A team fourth.
Spencer Skjonsberg finished third in the high jump.
Peterson was fifth in the long jump.
Regan Bollweg finished eighth in the discus.
Pierre will next compete Saturday in the Corn Palace Relays at Joe Quintal Stadium in Mitchell. A scheduled event Tuesday in Miller was cancelled.
