The following was written by retired Corson County sheriff Keith Gall and sent to DRG Media Group, Mobridge and other local media outlets April 25, 2021:
“I want to take this time to finally be able to thank everyone for their support, kind words, cards, and gifts that I received since my retirement announcement on March 2nd and last day of working for the Corson County Sheriffs Office on March 12th. On April 17th there was an open house at the city hall in McIntosh where many people showed up for great conversation, cake, coffee, and drinks. I want to thank my wife, Heather Gall and the Corson County Sheriff’s Office staff for planning this awesome get together. During this time, I received a crystal plaque, and to my surprise, my duty gun, a Glock model 45 9mm (which involved a hiccup 😊). There were representatives from Sheriffs Offices, both currently serving and retired, Highway Patrol, FBI, and a kind letter from the South Dakota Attorney General, that attended the open house.
“On April 21st, I attended my last South Dakota Sheriffs Conference banquet, in Deadwood, SD, where I received a retirement badge. The support and kind words from State Office representatives, Sheriffs and Police Chiefs were overwhelming.
“I thank the Corson County citizens for their support the last 30 years. Without support, we cannot accomplish the services and peace keeping, the Office does. I began this job as a Deputy in February of 1991, and soon after in 1992 became the Corson County Sheriff. The Office operated for over 20 years with a staff of myself, Deputy Brad Schell and Jailer/Dispatcher Jerry Block. My goal through out the years was to make the Sheriff’s Office grow in staff, technology, and equipment, to make our jobs safer and more professional, and our tasks more efficient. With the support of citizens, board of commissioners, and the most dedicated Sheriffs Office employees, I believe most of my goals have been accomplished. The Sheriff’s Office, now consists of the Sheriff, four deputies, and a K9 unit. Staff is equipped with some of the most advanced body armor, Tasers, firearms, new vehicles, and cameras both on the body and in patrol units. The Office also has some of the most advanced records keeping technology, which assists the staff in keeping track of call counts, type of calls, civil process, and jail records, etc. The Sheriffs Office has access to advanced training to keep staff up to date and safer.
“With the many changes in the Sheriff’s Office, and the changes going on involving law enforcement through out the country, it is now time for a new Sheriff to continue the great service the Office provides with fresh energy, leadership, new ideas, and an open mind.
“I wish the best to our newly appointed Corson County Sheriff, Alan Dale, who has taken over the duty of Sheriff on March 13th, 2021. Alan Dale has been working with the Corson County Sheriffs Office since 2011 and now has the tools and staff to continue and accomplish great things, involving law enforcement in Corson County, and keeping our communities safe. With the citizens continued support, Corson County will continue to have one of the greatest, hard working Sheriffs Offices representing them in the State of South Dakota.
“I will whole heartedly miss leading and working with “my Boys”, Deputy Mike Varilek and K9 Taz, Alan Dale, Deputy Mark Bilben, and Deputy Justin Tvedt. With out their work ethic, professionalism, dedication, and support, I would not have been able to accomplish the goals of building the Sheriff’s Office to what it is today. Corson County citizens can be extraordinarily proud of the work done by this Office.
“My years working as Corson County Sheriff will never be forgotten. There were great experiences, and there were many sad, dangerous, and painful ones. I thank God I was protected through out my law enforcement career the last 30 years. I will continue to pray for the safety of our law enforcement in Corson County and across this nation.”
Thank You, God Bless!
Keith E. Gall
