The City of Pierre’s park facilities are open for the season.
Those facilities include the public restrooms located throughout the city’s nine parks, as well as the showers and bathrooms located at the city’s Griffin Park storm shelter.
“Almost all of our facilities are connected to our park irrigation system,” said Tom Farnsworth, Parks and Recreation Director. “When we blow the irrigation lines out each fall we lose water service to the bathrooms.”
The opening of the facilities also means that the community room located in the storm shelter is available for gatherings throughout the summer.
“For a fee, we do make the community room available for private gatherings and celebrations,” said Farnsworth. “There’s now an outdoor grill included with the reservation, as well as a fridge and indoor and outdoor seating.”
Other city facilities that are available for rental throughout the summer season include the Pierre Native Arboretum Pavilion and Wedding Arbor, the Steamboat Park Amphitheater, and a number of sports fields. The city-owned gym attached to the newly remodeled Boys and Girls Club is available to rent throughout the year.
