There will be a leadership change at the Hughes County Jail starting July 1.
Sheriff Darin Johnson told county commissioners at yesterday’s (Mon.) meeting both he and jail administrator Bill Dodge will be retiring June 30.
Johnson was appointed interim sheriff in January 2019 filling the position vacated by long-time sheriff Mike Leidholt, who left to take over as the Secretary of Corrections for the State of South Dakota. Johnson was appointed sheriff in February 2019 and was unopposed on the 2020 election ballot.
Dodge has been with the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office since 1996 (25 years). Johnson has been there since 1997 (24 years).
