APRIL 2022:
An Aberdeen convicted of Possession of Child Pornography has received his penalty from a federal court judge in South Dakota.
35 year old Charles Chambers was sentenced to 240 months in federal prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release, $5,000 fine, and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.
The conviction stemmed from an incident on February 23, 2021, when Chambers accessed hundreds of digital files containing child pornography into his KIK Messenger account. Chambers used his cellular phone and the internet to access the files in interstate commerce.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Aberdeen Police Department.
Chambers was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
MAY 2021:
A 36 year old man from Aberdeen has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Distribution of Child Pornography.
Charles Chambers pled not guilty.
The Indictment alleges that on or about February 23, 2021, Chambers knowingly distributed and attempted to distribute child pornography that has been mailed, shipped and transported in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce by any means, including by computer.
The maximum penalty if convicted is up to 40 years in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, lifetime of supervised release and restitution may be ordered.
Chambers was remanded to the custody of the US Marshals Service pending trial.
