PIERRE – Four Pierre Governor Football standouts participated in a ceremony Thursday to symbolize their signings with college programs. All four were part of the four consecutive 11AA state championship teams.
Regan Bollweg is headed to South Dakota State, leaving Pierre as the Governors’ all-time leading receiver, and he accomplished that feat in just two seasons. Bollweg totaled 71 catches for 1,465 yards and 20 touchdowns, including 40 catches, 842 yards and 11 touchdowns in his senior season. As a linebacker, Bollweg also had 100 tackles in two seasons, 20 ½ sacks, an interception return for a touchdown and five forced fumbles.
Collin Brueggeman will play for Dakota State. Brueggeman made 97 tackles (47 solo) in three seasons, including 60 total, 11 for losses, four sacks and a forced fumble in his senior season.
Lineman Gunnar Gehring has signed with the University of Sioux Falls. Gehring played for four seasons on both sides of the line. As a guard, he helped the 2020 Governors average over 430 yards of offense a game. On defense at tackle, he had 181 tackles (83 solo) in four seasons, with 13 ½ sacks, 36 tackles for loss, a forced fumble and four fumble recoveries, one of which he returned for a touchdown in his senior season.
Linebacker Josh Rowse will play for Dakota Wesleyan. After playing on offense in his sophomore year and on both sides as a junior, Rowse concentrated on playing linebacker in his senior year and was Pierre’s leader in tackles with 88 (38 solo), with 12 for loss and a forced fumble. As a junior, Rowse had 52 tackles (29 solo), an interception and a fumble recovery.
Governor Head Coach Steve Steele expressed his pride in these four.
Steele said that the pandemic affected how they made their college choices some, but not really a great deal.
