Dry conditions may create increase in number of acres in central South Dakota planted to sunflowers

You may see more sunflower fields across South and North Dakota this year.

National Sunflower Association executive director John Sandbakken says dry conditions across much of the northern sunflower growing region have some producers making a few spring planting changes.

He explains more about where some of the acre increases are taking place.

Sandbakken adds crush plants continue to offer attractive cash and Act of God contracts for 2021 production.

Sandbakken says seed supplies are still plentiful and there is still time to place an order to put in some acres this growing season. Hybrid seed suppliers can be found by heading to the National Sunflower Association’s website.
