The High Plains Wildlife Association of Pierre and Fort Pierre will be hosting its 45th Kids Fishing Day Saturday May 22 from 9am-noon at Farm Island Recreation Area.
Registration will open at 8am and attendees are asked to park on the causeway. GF&P will provide a fisheries presentation at 9am. Fishing will run from 9:30-11:30am.
This shore fishing event is open to area youth ages 4 to 16 years of age interested in fishing or learning how to fish. Children should bring their own fishing equipment if possible. Live bait will be provided by Shel’s Gas Stop.
No park entrance license will be required due to Open House Weekend in the statewide park system. Also no fishing license is necessary due to free fishing weekend statewide.
Parents must register their children and are encouraged to accompany their child through the entire event.
Soft drinks and cookies will be available with hot dogs, chips and cold drinks served immediately following fishing. Prizes will be awarded to 5 age groups, along with drawings for door prizes and handouts.

Thanks to the generosity of High Plains member Mahylon Satrang, there will also be a special raffle drawing will be held to award one bicycle to a lucky boy and one to a lucky girl. This is in memory of his late wife Cheryl who loved Kids Fishing Day. The event is in cooperation with SD Game, Fish & Parks and local businesses.
