A 27 year old man from Rosebud, South Dakota, convicted of Assaulting, Resisting, and Impeding a Federal Officer has been sentenced in U.S. District Court.
Adam Moran, a/k/a Cante Moran must spend 21 months in federal prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release, and pay a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.
The conviction stemmed from an incident that occurred on the evening of May 19, 2020, in Todd County. On that date, Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services responded to a call for service in Rosebud indicating that Moran had taken a vehicle without permission. RSTLES officers located the vehicle a short time later and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Moran refused to stop, however, and led officers on a high-speed pursuit from Rosebud to Mission during which he forced multiple RSTLES vehicles off the road. Moran ran his vehicle off the roadway near Mission and exited the vehicle. When officers approached him, he physically confronted one of the officers before being placed under arrest and taken into custody.
Moran was immediately turned over to the custody of the US Marshals Service.
