Feeding South Dakota is offering an incentive to get people to volunteer at its Pierre location.
Operation End Hunger encourages central South Dakota residents, middle and high school students, church and civic groups, businesses that offer time off for employees to volunteer, retired adults and individuals in between jobs to spend time helping to prepare mobile food boxes, pack senior boxes, assist with sorting food donations, netting produce and more.
With the help of a $20,000 Coronavirus Response Fund grant from The South Dakota Community Foundation, a $40 Walmart gift card will be provided to individuals for every six hours of volunteer work they do. The incentive will be provided until all funds have been dispersed.
Children aged 11-13 can volunteer with a parent or guardian and children aged 14-17 may volunteer independently with a waiver form signed by a parent or guardian. Upon successful completion of six volunteer hours, a $40 gift card will be mailed on the 1st of each month to the address listed in the volunteer database.
Individuals and/or groups can register online at www.feedingsouthdakota.org/volunteer and click on “Operation End Hunger.”
This project is modeled after a successful incentive program that was first implemented in the Black Hills area.
