Smart speakers are in just about every household right now. I’ve heard this from multiple resources now that Amazon smart products are going to start sharing your internet with your neighbors unless you opt-out. I’m not one hundred percent sure why this is happening or how it will happen. I believe that it will just share your network with them and they’ll be able to connect within the app, but don’t quote me on that.
According to The Seattle Times, this new feature is called “Sidewalk.” It would allow a bandwidth of wireless internet “on the sidewalks,” to be used. It’s not sure if they are doing this to increase their surveillance coverage or what. If you don’t want others on your network, then you have to opt inside your Alexa App. I found this video on TikTok to help you out. The video also says that ring devices are going to be doing the same thing, so make sure that you disable the feature in your ring app as well. This video will walk you through how to do this inside your Amazon App. I did mine this morning and it’s super easy.
