The exhibit “South Dakota’s Wardrobe: Selected Pieces from the Collection” opened yesterday (June 12) in the Hogen Gallery of the museum of the South Dakota State Historical Society at the Cultural Heritage Center in Pierre.
The new exhibit features a variety of clothing from the 1880s to the 1980s from the museum’s clothing collection. Some of the pieces have never been on display before.
The South Dakota state bird, the pheasant, inspired Myrtle Taylor of Aberdeen to create a gold lame dress for the National Convention of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists held in Chicago in 1948. Edna Anderson Auby and Georgia McClain assisted with the design. Mrs. John Hein of Mobridge did the feather work.
