PIERRE – T.F. Riggs High School freshman Taylyn Cass has made the South Dakota National Junior High rodeo team and will compete starting on Sunday in the National Junior High Finals Rodeo in barrel racing and ribbon roping.
The NJHFR is the largest junior high rodeo in the world. It features around 1,200 contestants from 44 states, five Canadian provinces, Australia, New Zealand and Mexico. Competitors will vie for over $80,000 in prizes and more than $200,000 in college scholarships.
This year’s NJHFR is set for the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. The first performance will be Sunday at 7:00 PM CT, with performances at 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM through Saturday, June 26.
Cass is scheduled to compete on Monday morning, June 21 and Friday evening, June 25 in barrel racing; and Tuesday evening, June 22 and Thursday morning, June 24 in ribbon roping.
