SIOUX FALLS – Post 8 earned two wins Saturday at the Dakota Classic to qualify for a spot in Sunday’s quarterfinal round, defeating Norfolk (NE) 6-4 and Sioux Falls West 5-0.
Against Norfolk, a fourth-inning passed ball gave Post 8 a 4-3 lead. The Eights added to their lead in the fifth inning with an RBI single by Jack Merkwan and a sacrifice fly by Matthew Hanson. Merkwan drove in two runs. Gary Nedved was three-for-three. Jackson Edman pitched five and two-thirds innings for the win.
Isaac Polak and Andy Gordon combined for a three-hit shutout in the win over Sioux Falls West. Polak struck out six. Nedved hit a two-run double and Hanson drove in two for Post 8 (13-6).
Post 8 will play Jackson (MN) Sunday morning before playing in the quarterfinal round on Sunday evening.
