I never really thought of this until David brought it up… but astronauts don’t have the capability of doing laundry in space. While they are up there, they wear their clothes until they can’t stand the smell anymore. They then throw them away according to USA Today. That same article talks about how Tide owned by P&G… the laundry detergent company is teaming up with the International Space Station/ NASA to try and create a solution to this problem. That way clothes are no longer getting thrown away all the time. The article states several experiments will be sent up to the space station to collect data and see what works best. P&G is even working on a prototype of a washer and dryer that could function on the station as well. We’ll have to follow this story and see what happens.
Personally, I think if some good things come out of this, we could be steps closer to having folks living in space. I’m personally excited to see what comes of this!
