Going into the 4th of July weekend, a lot of BBQs are going to happen. Having folks over can get really expensive. My parents love hosting parties. I help my mom out a lot with them. They get spendy really fast! The American Farm Bureau put the pencil to paper to figure out how much the average get-together is going to cost this year. Now it may look different for folks in different states, and this is just a general idea. The items included are also just guesses of what folks will actually have.
The American Farm Bureau figured the average party will have ten people and did their calculations based on that. They found if you don’t include fireworks and alcohol the average party will cost around $59.50. If you break that down, it comes out to be around $6 a person. You can’t even eat out for that cheap these’s days! Here’s what they considered you would serve.
1. Two pounds of hamburger, plus cheese and buns . . . $13.91.
2. Three pounds of pork . . . $11.63.
3. Two pounds of boneless chicken breasts . . . $6.74.
4. Two-and-a-half pounds of homemade potato salad . . . $2.75.
5. 32 ounces of beans . . . $1.90.
6. A 13-ounce bag of potato chips . . . $4.93.
7. Chocolate chip cookies . . . $4.02.
8. Two pints of strawberries . . . $5.30.
9. A half-gallon of vanilla ice cream . . . $4.69.
10. Lemonade for ten people . . . $3.65.
Now, this menu does look different than what I would serve, but you can kind of get the idea of what they were thinking. Will your party come close to this estimate?
