SIOUX FALLS – Former Hillsview Golf Course superintendent Dean Heymans and Agar High School alum Merv Bouchie are among the 2021 inductees into the South Dakota Golf Association Hall of Fame.
Heymans started at Hillsview as an assistant superintendent in 1974 and became the head superintendent in 1977. He will always be remembered for helping Hillsview return to business after it was closed for two years following the Missouri River flooding of 2013. Heymans also is a founding member of the South Dakota Chapter of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.
Bouchie played in multiple sports in Agar, but they didn’t include golf. He took it up while attending Huron College, quickly became a scratch player and was hired to manage Huron’s Memorial Golf Course in 1971. Later he managed Meadowbrook Golf Course (now Broadland Creek) and became the head pro at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell in 1996. After retiring from there, Bouchie served two terms as SDGA president.
Other inductees include former Brookings Country Club general manager Tedd Evans, former O’Gorman boys & girls coach and 17-time state champion Rod Garrison and five-time SDGA champion Steve Weiland.
