Due to a material delivery delay, the Highland Avenue construction project in Pierre will start a week later than expected.
Barring any other unforeseen complications, the project will now begin Monday (July 19). At that time, Highland Avenue between Wynoka Avenue and Elizabeth Street will close to through traffic. Additionally, these three intersections will be closed:
- Highland and Oak
- Highland and Seneca
-
Highland and Elizabeth
Closures will remain in place until the project is finished this fall.
During the Highland Avenue project, a 70-year-old water main will be replaced, new curb and gutter will be installed and the street will receive a new asphalt surface.
In May, the Pierre City Commission awarded a $1.4 million contract to Morris Inc. to complete the project.
