Despite an unpredictable back-to-school environment, overall back-to-school spending is expected to increase by 16 percent this year over last — not really a surprise considering a large number of students spent the 2020-2021 school year at home.… This year, parents plan to spend an average of $612 on average per child. Across the U.S. almost $33 billion will be spent on back-to-school shopping.
