The investigation into the deaths of two individuals recovered from the Missouri River near Pierre late Wednesday (July 21, 2021) has been completed.
Information from the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office says forensic examination indicates 60 year old Charles Serbousek of Pierre likely died as a result of a heart attack prior to his body entering the water.
The cause of death of 6 year old Joseph Serbousek of Pierre was determined to be drowning.
The two had been fishing from shore.
Names of the victims are being released with the permission of the family. Hughes County sheriff Patrick Callahan asks that the public and media respect the family’s privacy.
The search and recovery effort included the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks, Pierre Police Department, Stanley County Sheriff’s Office, Hughes County Emergency Management, Pierre Fire Department, Pierre Rescue Squad, AMR Ambulance and the Hughes County Coroner’s Office.
