South Dakota Senators Mike Rounds and John Thune are members of a bipartisan group introducing the Product of the USA Beef Act.
Rounds says the bill limits the use of the “Product of the USA” label only to beef products that are born, raised and slaughtered in the United States.
Rounds says it’s taken far too long to establish the “Product of the USA” label.
Thune says South Dakota cattle ranchers work hard to produce some of the highest quality beef in the world, and they deserve to proudly showcase their products with accurate labeling.
The legislation is endorsed by the US Cattlemen’s Association, R-CALF, South Dakota Farmers Union and the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association.
Along with Rounds and Thune, the bill is cosponsored by Senators John Barrasso (Wyo.), Cory Booker (N.J.), Bill Hagerty (Tenn.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (Miss.), Cynthia Lummis (Wyo.) and Steve Daines (Mont.). Representative Matt Rosendale (Mont.) is introducing companion legislation in the House of Representatives.
