PIERRE – In what turned out to be their final game of 2021, the Pierre Trappers rallied for a late lead but could not hold on. Spearfish scored three in the eighth inning Thursday and two in the ninth to defeat the Trappers 12-7 at Hyde Stadium and clinch an Expedition League playoff spot.
Richard Williams’ RBI triple brought home the final run in a four-run rally that put the Trappers in front 8-7 in the home seventh. But then, Hayden Driggs hit a two-run single in the top of the eighth for the Sasquatch to break a tie.
Collin Adams hit his eighth home run and drove in two runs for the Trappers, who ended their 2021 season at 17-45.
Earlier Thursday, the Trappers announced that scheduled games for Friday and Saturday with the Hastings Sodbusters at Hyde Stadium have been cancelled.
Trappers General Manager Kelcy Nash said that the cancellation was forced by “injuries and other factors.”
Anyone holding single-game tickets for the cancelled games can request a refund.
Nash also announced that the Trappers will hold a “fun night” on Friday evening at Hyde Stadium, with a scrimmage featuring a few players & interns, a home run derby and a fireworks show. Concessions will be sold, as will discounted merchandise. Admission to the event will be free.
