Pierre Boys Soccer Ranked 5th In Coaches Poll, Girls Receive Votes

For the first time, the Pierre Governor boys soccer team is a state-ranked team.

This is the first season that the South Dakota High School Soccer Coaches Association is releasing weekly polls, and the Governors are fifth in this week’s AA Boys poll.

Pierre split their first two games of the season, winning 6-0 Friday at Douglas/Rapid City Christian, then losing 5-3 Saturday after being tied with the Spartans at halftime. Spearfish, who was ranked fifth in the preseason poll, did not receive enough votes to make this week’s poll.

Also, the Governor girls received votes in the AA girls poll. Pierre is 2-0 after road wins of 10-0 at Douglas/Rapid City Christian and 2-0 at Spearfish.

Both Governor teams will host Sioux Falls Roosevelt Thursday at the PILC Soccer Complex, with the girls playing at 4:00 PM and the boys starting at 6:00 PM.
