Beginning Thursday (Aug. 19, 2021), Pierre city officials are asking residents to help lower daily demand from the town’s water distribution system.
City Utilities Director Brad Palmer says people are asked to water lawns only every other day because a large water main running under Highland Avenue is under construction.
Palmer says Pierre currently has an adequate water supply, and the storage issue will resolve when the water main project is finished. He says the lawn watering restriction will remain in place until the project wraps up in late September.
There is also a voluntary lawn watering restriction in place in Fort Pierre. Just like in Pierre, Fort Pierre addresses that end in an odd number should limit watering to odd numbers days and properties with addresses that end in an even number should limit lawn irrigation to even number days.
